It's
lurking out there in sock drawers and coffee cans, car ash trays
and cigar boxes, wicker baskets and beer mugs. An yes, in,
piggy banks. By design or neglect, KAXE listeners have
tucked away their loose change to the tune of $216,000.. An
estimated 56 percent of KAXE listeners build up their change
rather than spend it day to day. As many as 77 percent have
a container of coins around the house, worth an average of $50 to
$100.
In
building up their coins, KAXE listeners are fairly typical of
people around the world who can afford to leave loose change lying
around. Change becomes something that they like to have, but
it also becomes a nuisance because of its weight. So much so
that that a fair amount of it actually winds up in the trash, says
William Mint, an archaeology professor at the Institute of
Togomusicollogy and author of the book
"Rubbish." His study of an Effie, Minnesota
incinerator found that the 476 people it served were leaving about
$1,366 worth of coins in their garbage every day. "I
think it tells us that we're pretty well off," says
Mint.
KAXE
has come up with a great idea for all that loose change you have

Member? That's right! Make the commitment, today, to
start saving your spare change for KAXE's Endowment.
On Friday, October 25th, we'll collect all the change and
celebrate. At that time, we'll have a pig roast, present
awards for the best decorated container and the most money
collected. To participate, please fill out and return your
Pink Pig's Butt Membership application Form or call us here at
