| Doug
MacRostie
Doug is a 5th generation member of the Itasca County
community. His great-great grandparents moved to the
northwestern reaches of the county in
1911, almost 100 years ago. Doug’s parents, Lyle and Elaine,
live only about a mile away from his great-great grandparents’ original
homestead. They operate a hand-made shoe shop, MacRostie
Leathers.
At the age of 25, Doug MacRostie holds the distinction of
being the youngest member of KAXE’s staff. Interestingly, some
listeners have dubbed Doug "The Oldies Guy" because of
his penchant for mixing a liberal dose of music from the ‘60s
and ‘70s into his programs [oldies?].
Dancing
with the generational gap in music is something Doug enjoys very
much. “Growing up I heard all kinds of music that my parents
played in their shoe shop; artists like Bruce Cockburn, the
Beatles, Moody Blues, Donovan, and Podipto. But at that time my
music collection contained the likes of Alice in Chains, System
of a Down and Rage Against the Machine. The exploration of the generation
gap is an exploration of music. While the presentation has
changed, the heart and soul of the music is still there.”
