Stephanie Rose
Members venturing into KAXE’s studios are likely
to be met by a diminutive but spunky gal in red cowboy boots. “Hi!”
she’ll say, “Thank you for supporting KAXE!”
If you’re looking for answers to membership
questions, shopping for a flattering KAXE tee shirt, or want to pay your
pledge, follow those red boots. They’re lucky boots, they’re from
Wyoming, and they’re attached to the feet of KAXE’s Member Services
Manager and fashionista, Stephanie Rose.
Like most fashionistas, Stephanie always dresses
professionally at work, but she puts on her red cowboy boots whenever
she needs an extra measure of luck or a reminder of her roots. “When I
was a little girl I always wanted red cowboy boots, because Nancy Reagan
always wore red. Last year when I was in Wyoming I saw a pair and my
boyfriend got them for me. Nothing bad can happen when I wear my red
boots. I’m invincible in them. Besides, they’re very fashionable and
that’s the most important thing, right?”
Stephanie Rose is intelligent, humorous, quick with
a retort and a little bit dangerous. “I came out of the closet as a
public radio listener, and now I’m trying to get my parents to come out
too…I tell people I don’t just do this because I like to torture myself
hanging out with left-wing lunatics. Public radio is great radio and,
very importantly, KAXE is risky radio. One of my favorite things about
KAXE members, besides how smart and sophisticated they are, is that they
are willing to take risks with their radio listening. They’re the
greatest!”
Stephanie is a strategist and nonconformist. She
keeps a supply of Dominican and Nicaraguan cigars in a humidor on her
desk. “I generally just smoke a panatela, but when I have the time I
really do appreciate a cocktail and a corona.” She smiles faintly. “I
like spending quality time with KAXE’s members and also with my more
fashionable work associates. But whenever anyone bothers me, I just
say, ‘You have a phone call,’ or ‘I think you should take care of that
fire’ or ‘Maggie wants to see you in her office. With the door
closed.’ That usually works.”
“I hope everyone who listens to KAXE becomes a
member. If you aren’t a member yet, I’m doing my best to find you and
convince you to become one. If you are already a member, I’ll try to
help make your membership easy and rewarding. Please call me if you
have any problems or concerns or if you just want to talk radio.”
