John Latimer's Phenology Report for June 26, 2018

We care deeply about the natural world around us here at KAXE-KBXE.  Every week we learn from our listeners about what they are noticing outside and every week our resident phenologist John Latimer assesses today's climate happenings with those in his 30+ years phenological data collection.

Today, in our talkback segment, John Latimer takes listeners on a tour of the KAXE-KBXE Season Watch page on Facebook to share what some of our Seasonwatchers are dialoguing about.

In John's full phenology report  he dives deep into the flowering goodness of the forest.  Strawberries, juneberries, plaintain flowers, curled dock,  and chicken of the woods mushrooms are just a few of the topics he touches on today.

What are you noticing?  Send us a note via email or leave a voicemail at 218.999.9876.  We'd love to hear about it.

If you love this stuff, you'll dig our KAXE-KBXE Season Watch Page on Facebook.  Check it out!

Listen to KAXE/KBXE Northern Community Radio every Tuesday morning for the full phenology show.

As a mail carrier in rural Grand Rapids, Minn., for 35 years, John Latimer put his own stamp on a career that delivered more than letters. Indeed, while driving the hundred-mile round-trip daily route, he passed the time by observing and recording seasonal changes in nature, learning everything he could about the area’s weather, plants and animals, and becoming the go-to guy who could answer customers’ questions about what they were seeing in the environment.
