Trout lily just about to bloom

Aged oak bark was taken at Jay Cooke State Park Estimated 400 years old, perhaps a rare (to that area) swamp white oak.

The large leafed aster is just breaking ground and the flowers will be out in late June. Large hairy leaves often grabbed when toilet paper has been forgotten.

Wood anemone and blue bead lily are seen in the wood anemone picture. The fleshy leaves on the left are the lily.

And just WHO IS this John Latimer??
John is a rural mail carrier in Grand Rapids. Looking at nature from the window of his car he has struggled to learn the what, how, and why of our natural surroundings. Curiosity and a desire to share his excitement have led him to KAXE and the Phenology show.

John can be reached via email at jlatimer@kaxe.org
