KAXE Staff - Dan Houg

 Dan
is Northern Community Radio's station
engineer, and since he is the only engineer
at KAXE/KBXE, is the self-appointed "Chief
Engineer". Dan's motto is, "If it
stinks or sparks, I deal with it." and he
holds true to his word as he does things
from repairing electronic circuity inside
our transmitters to installing super flush
toilets. Dan job responsibilities
include installing, maintaining, and
repairing studio equipment, transmitters,
the office LAN, phone system,
copiers/printers, and the gas grill.
Dan's has built a Waste Vegetable Oil
powered car that he uses daily to commute
from Bemidji to Grand Rapids. Running
on old fryer grease, Dan has put nearly
100,000 miles on since the car conversion
and likes driving on a waste product that is
free... and smells good! The most
frequent question Dan gets is, "Does it
smell like fries?"-- well, yes, but he says
it more like a grilled steak with the fat
dripping on the coals. Mmmmm...
