Wednesday, October 4 the University of MN’s Natural Resources Research Institute hosted an open house for the media at its research lab in Coleraine.  The purpose of the event was to showcase a new bio-fuels project that is the result of ten years of research into producing renewable fuels from wood chips and other plants.

This week on the Border News Roundup Timberjay editor Marshall Helmberger told us about ambitious and innovative Orr Recreation and Resource Center.  They are using an old school building to explore sustainability, alternative energies and local food including aquaponics.  The Homesteading and Sustainability Expo is August 19th & 20th.

This Thursday evening at 6:30pm at the Blandin Foundation J. Drake Hamilton,  an expert in climate and energy policies at the state and national levels, will be speaking on the benefits of renewable energies.  It is sponsored by Earth Circle and The Itasca Clean Energy Team.

Tuesday March 7th, 2017 was the U.S State Department's only public meeting on the proposed Line 67 (formerly known as the Alberta Clipper) .  Enbridge needs to get Presidential approval to cross from Canada into the U.S.   According to Enbridge, there's an increased need for oil and with Line 67 they will be able to transport 890,000 gallons of oil a day instead of 500,000 safely.  This oil will move into Enbridge's new Line 3 along this route
