Governor Mark Dayton

Friday mornings Timberjay editor and publisher MarshallHelmberger tells us about some of the stories they covered this week.  Today we hear about the campground opening at the new state park, Governor Dayton's thoughts on federal inaction with health insurance, a man - a canoe - and a turkey all near Ely and Marshall's ongoing struggle with squirrels.

At the end of the last MN Legislative session Governor Mark Dayton did something no governor has done before.  Many before him have vetoed bills, line-item vetoed elements of omnibus bills....but none have vetoed the budget of the Legislature in general.

It's caused quite a stir that can be difficult to understand, that's why we called in Minn Post reporter Briana Bierschbach to help us make heads or tails of it.

Each Friday morning Marshall Helmberger tells us some of the stories his newspaper, the Timberjay, has been covering.  The lead story this week is about a man from Nett Lake who found his grandfather's manuscript and published it.  It's called "Savage Ancestors" and was probably written in the 1930s.  Marshall also tells us about the Governor Mark Dayton's trip to Ely to talk water quality.

This morning Briana Bierschbach talked with us about her latest MinnPost article where she looks at the legacy of Governor Mark Dayton's judicial appointments.  Our DFL commentator Colleen Nardone also joined us.
