Rural Art

MacRostie Art Center

We check in with Katie Marshall from the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids every First Friday.  She was in the studio this morning telling Heidi and John and our listeners about all the great stuff happening in Grand Rapids this weekend.  In addition to the usual First Friday events, Winter Glow Festival kicks off today at 4pm in downtown Grand Rapids complete with Mr. and Mrs. Claus!

The Ely Folk School builds community  by providing learning experiences that celebrate the wilderness, heritage, art, history, culture and craft of the people of northern Minnesota.  We check in with Molly Olson from the Ely Folk School on the first Friday of each month and she tips us off on the upcoming events.

Bemidji, MN was just named Minnesota Monthly's Best MN Town.  One of the many elements of Bemidji that make it unique is its passion for the arts.  The Bemidji Sculpture Walk, a thriving theater and music scene, the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra, the First Friday Arts Walk, and the yearly Art in the Park are just a sampling of wealth of riches in the arts that set Bemidji apart from other comparable towns.

Central Lakes College

Do you believe in ghosts?  Do you love to be scared?  Brainerd Community Theater is getting into the spirit of Halloween with the chilling production The Woman in Black.  Patrick Spradlin and Kevin Yeager bring the two man production to life this weekend at the Chalberg Theater on the Central Lakes College campus in Brainerd.  In this segment of Area Voices, Spradlin and Yeager share insights on the ghost story.

We spoke with Luverne Seifert, co-artistic director for Sod House Theater on the morning show today. He told us all about her organization's mission to take professional theater experiences to rural Minnesota in order to inspire person to person dialogue about community issues.
