Phenology Report: August 22, 2017

Solar Eclipse by Nora Woodsworth

Tuesdays are dedicated to the natural world around us here at KAXE/KBXE.  The Phenology Report provides a comprehensive look at what's blooming, flying, ripening and happening in nature here in northern Minnesota.  Resident phenologist John Latimer is out of town so today Harvey Tjader joins us as a guest phenologist.  Harvey is a DNR forest ecologist in the Bemidji area.

What have you noticed?  Send us a note via email or leave a voicemail at 218.999.9876.  We'd love to hear about it.

As a mail carrier in rural Grand Rapids, Minn., for 35 years, John Latimer put his own stamp on a career that delivered more than letters. Indeed, while driving the hundred-mile round-trip daily route, he passed the time by observing and recording seasonal changes in nature, learning everything he could about the area’s weather, plants and animals, and becoming the go-to guy who could answer customers’ questions about what they were seeing in the environment.
