See you at the Festival

Jun 19, 2017

The Mississippi River Festival is set for Friday and Saturday, July 14th & 15th at the KAXE amphitheater in Grand Rapids. This year’s lineup is OUTSTANDING and will be a great mix of blues, folk, rock and world music.

Har Mar Superstar - Friday 8pm

Har Mar Superstar (Friday 8pm) - Sean Tillmann (aka Har Mar Superstar) is an American songwriter / performer who makes R&B / Pop / Soul music. What started as a one-man show in 1999 has grown into a full band revue. Often noted as a premier live act, Tillmann works the crowd and earns his keep with sweat equity.

Haley - Friday 6pm

Haley (Friday 6pm)– Haley has been making a name for herself both nationally and internationally with her indie-rock sound. Her 2016 release of “Impossible Dream” came out to rave reviews from SPIN magazine and All Songs Considered. Haley was part of our Centerstage MN Concert series this fall and we are happy to have her back.

Professor Louie & the Crowmatix - Saturday 8pm

Professor Louie & the Crowmatix (Saturday 8pm)- Professor Louie & The Crowmatix began as the studio backing band for Aaron “Professor Louie’s” musical productions for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees, The Band. Steeped in rock ‘n’ roll, blues, Gospel and American roots music, they have 12 studio CD’s on The Woodstock Records label. Their latest recording, Crowin’ The Blues was released in February 2017.

ESSO! Afrojam Funkbeat

¡ESSO! AfrojamFunkbeat (Saturday 6pm) – A dynamic musical ensemble formed in Chicago in 2013. They perform a variety of roots rock inspired dance music from North, Central, and South America, as well as the Caribbean Islands. The ethnically diverse musicians establish energizing polyrhythmic grooves and combine biting twang guitars, thumping bass, with the strength of brass horns, group singing, and urban poetry.

Dawg Yawp - Saturday 4pm
Lowest Pair - Saturday 2pm

Dawg Yawp (Saturday 4pm) - A folk-based duo that combines sitar, guitar, synth and drum samples alongside beautiful harmonies. Tyler Randall and Rob Keenan are lifelong friends that attended Berklee together, only to return to their native Cincinnati to focus on the project. Their debut EP Two Hearted quickly earned them acclaim and radio play, including being Album of the Week right here on KAXE/KBXE.

Lowest Pair (Saturday 2pm)– The Lowest Pair features the duel banjo picking of Kendl Winter and Palmer T. Lee. Draped in Kendl’s high lonesome harmonies and Palmer’s Midwest croon, their debut release, 36¢, (Team Love Records) was hailed by many outlets and American Songwriter praised their ”earnest, earthy songcraft.” Described as “one of the best under-the-radar Americana duos of today” we are excited to have them part of this year’s festival.
